Feeding

Feeding is the ability to consume food. Developmental, nutritional, social, emotional, and medical factors can impact on a child’s feeding abilities.

We aim to support a child’s feeding skills by:

  • Supporting families in creating positive mealtime experiences through responsive feeding techniques, making mealtimes less stressful for both the child and parents.

  • Helping children learn how to chew food properly using their teeth, tongue, and jaw muscles.

  • Assisting children in becoming comfortable with different food textures, such as crunchy or soft foods, if they are sensitive or avoid certain textures.

  • Working with children to expand their diet by providing a safe space and gently encouraging them to try new foods or flavours, especially if they are picky eaters.

  • Strengthening the muscles of the mouth, tongue, and lips to support effective eating and drinking.
