ASSESSMENT Your Speech Pathologist will assess your child in initial sessions using an array of comprehensive assessments. They will discuss your child’s complete case history, gain an understanding of your main concerns, and will complete formal and informal assessments in order to identify primary difficulties impacting on your child’s communication. These reports can be shared with teachers, doctors, and any other allied health professionals that work with your child. Your Speech Pathologist may write support letters with strategies to help develop your child’s skills or other recommendations that will assist the child. Your child will be scheduled in for regular, ongoing speech therapy sessions focusing on their main areas of difficulty. It is recommended that parents are present in sessions so that they can regularly discuss their child’s progress. After each session you and your child will be given activities to work on at home between each session. Your child may also benefit from group therapy programs.
